Behind the Scenes

BRONCO PLAYTIME

Bronco Playtime is Candra's first traditionally animated piece. The process entails individual drawings that illustrate movement. For-instance, creating a stick figure slowly moving across the screen would entail a number of sketches showing slight difference in the progression of movement. The smoother the movement, the greater number of sketches.

This 30 sec. clip contains over 500 individual sketches in this piece. Each pencil line was darkened. The sketch was carefully aligned to a screen. Each sketch was photographed under special lighting with a tripod mounted camera. These photographs were downloaded and using a personally-customized film program, the animation was created.

Candra brought the animation to life through the addition of sound effects; recordings of horses nickering, snorting, neighing and galloping. Three different sound-editing programs were used to mix the sound and divide it into segments. Each segment was synchronized to an animated sequence of the film. By using a final sound mixing program, she combined the multiple layers of sound into a final track for the short film.
